Christ University: BA in Music, Psychology, and English

The university life was quite hectic, with continuous assessments and exams but at the same time, there were good friends and people who help I you get through this tough time. I chose this particular university as the course that I was interested in was available only in Christ University and not anywhere else. Christ (Deemed to be) University is also a well known university and has a good reputation. I would recommend this university for the practical exposure that it provides.

I have been interested in western classical music since I was a child, and since this particular subject was available only in this university, I chose it. The course I selected was BA in Music, Psychology and English. To be eligible for the course, the applicant must have completed at least 5 grades in voice or piano from ABRSM or from London University of Music. This helps increase their chances of getting into the university. The admission process for this particular course is as follows: one is required to give an audition where they perform. Usually, two pieces of music are required. After this, an interview is held where the applicant is interviewed based on music, psychology and English. There are two CIA's per semester, and one mid semester exam and one end semester exam. The academics are on par in this way they prepare you for real life challenges.

The year wise fee at Christ University for an Indian student outside of Karnataka is about Rs. 1,05,000. This comes out to about Rs. 3,50,000 for the entire course. There is no semester wise fee and all the students are required to pay the fees before the year begins. There is no special discount provided for students. However, students who perform exceptionally well in extracurricular activities are more likely to be able to apply for a scholarship. I am not fully sure about the details of the scholarship, but there is a scholarship for students who represent the university and do excellently well.

The faculty for English and music were good. However, the faculty for psychology was not that good. They did not treat the students very well. Most of the faculty is well qualified for the subjects they teach and are passionate in doing so. Teaching methods includes use of blackboard, use of presentations and a lot of group activities. The student to teacher ratio at the university is about 80 to 1, and this varies from course to course. Most of the faculty was quite approachable.

Christ University didn’t provide any placements for my course. However, the faculty was kind enough to connect and form networks and used that to recommend students for work areas.

There are two residential facilities, one for boys and one for girls at Christ University. These are located inside the campus, but are very strict in timings and rules. Violation of these rules results in hefty fines. This makes it an unsuitable choice for most people to stay at. The pro of this is that the hostel is cheaper and very clean. The hostel food is not very good. There are plenty of paid guest accommodations that are available outside that campus.

There are five blocks in Christ University, excluding the two blocks that are used by other college’s students. The campus is a big one, but still gets crowded due to strength of the students. The classrooms are well equipped with seats and fans and proper power back up. The library is huge, with a large range of books, from fiction to nonfiction to references for course related subjects. There are two main auditoriums inside the campus of Christ University. There are also multiple canteens with ample seating space which turn to be hangout spots. The infrastructure is very good at Christ University.

Over campus life is good, lively but also exhausting and hectic. This can get tiring and lead to burn outs. There are multiple clubs, groups to be a part of an inter collegiate related activities. There are also multiple events held by the university which students are encouraged to be a part of. A favorite event of mine was Magnificent, where we used to sing. This was held during Christmas time and the entire university would be decorated with lights and music would be played.
